Send us Fan MailThe difference between wishful thinking and Christian hope is the difference between wobbling through suffering and standing firm inside it. We’re talking about hope the way Scripture talks about it: a confident expectation rooted in the blood of Jesus Christ and the promise of His return. When hope is something you can “see” with spiritual eyes, patience stops being passive and becomes active perseverance, the kind God works in us when life is heavy and the wait is long.We also wrestle with a hard contrast: the Day of the Lord is joy to the believer and terror to the scoffer. That tension shows up sharply in 2 Peter 3, where mockers ask, “Where is the promise of his coming?” Peter’s answer pulls no punches. God has acted in judgment before, the flood was not a myth, and the same word that formed the world also reserves a day of fire, justice, and final accountability. At the same time, God’s timing is not forgetfulness. His longsuffering is salvation, and His delay is mercy as He brings His people to repentance.We close with what this means on a normal day when you’re tired, grieving, or discouraged: our hope is not merely escaping pain, but seeing Christ, being with Him, and living in the new heavens and new earth where righteousness dwells.
