This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:9-11 niv The crucifixion of Jesus is the central point of history, literally the crux of the grand narrative we find ourselves in. It is simultaneously the most painful, unjust scene - and the most glorious & beautiful. What was accomplished on the cross & in the subsequent days transformed all that was & will be. The good news & glory of the cross is the highlight of every sermon, every lesson, every song & every gathering of our community. In this sermon, we'll look at Jesus' crucifixion through the lens of Luke and highlight what he emphasized. In particular, the forgiveness of Jesus, the response of the co-crucified criminals, and the response of the centurion, the crowd & the watching women. May the cross of Christ radically transform us from the inside out - and may we live in the reality & beauty of Jesus' death by love.
