Following Saul's descent into mental illness, David becomes king and the 40+ years of his leadership become thought of as "the good old days" in the years to come. But David, a master at making good choices as a king, make many terrible choices in his personal and family life. Somehow the tendency to divide life into slices and see the hand of God in some but not all continues to this day.
