Richard Donner’s beloved 1985 film gave Gen X kids on-screen peers who talked like we did. They cursed and talked over one another and were cruel and sweet and they went on fabulous adventures.This very of-the-moment brand of storytelling gave us unhealthy fatphobia, contradictory messages about greed, and a legendary pirate named after a penis.
