The Gopnik State: How Russia’s Courtyard Code Hijacked a Nuclear Superpower

In this episode, Elvira Bary explains how Russia’s gopnik culture moved from apartment-block courtyards into business, law enforcement, government, propaganda, and the Kremlin itself. Outside Russia, the gopnik is often treated as a meme: tracksuits, sunflower seeds, squatting, crude slang. But inside Russia, this culture meant intimidation, humiliation, loyalty to the gang, contempt for weakness, and the belief that force decides everything. This video traces how the courtyard code formed, how street bullies became respectable, and how the same logic now shapes Russian politics, the war against Ukraine, and the ruling class of a nuclear superpower.JOIN ME ON THE JOURNEY👉 Buy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/elvirabary👉 Donate with PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=CSAQ25WWN979A👉 My books on Amazon: https://amzn.to/465Co4Q👉 Sign-up for news about the New Book here: https://elvirabary.com/elvira-barys-newsletter/Elvira Bary YouTube Channel (115K Subs):  https://www.youtube.com/@elvirabaryJOIN ME ON THE JOURNEY👉 Sign-up for news about the New Book here: https://elvirabary.com/elvira-barys-newsletter/Buy Me A Coffee  - https://buymeacoffee.com/elvirabaryDonate with PayPal - https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=CSAQ25WWN979A
