January 25, 2026 In this message from Luke 5:17–26, we encounter a familiar healing story that turns out to be anything but expected. As Jesus heals a paralyzed man lowered through the roof by his friends, Luke draws our attention to a deeper conflict unfolding in the room, a clash between two visions of how God works. The religious leaders believe God’s forgiveness must flow through established systems and structures, while Jesus reveals an authority that cannot be contained or controlled. Before the man ever walks, Jesus forgives his sins, challenging assumptions about faith, healing, power, and forgiveness. This teaching invites us to examine where we may have quietly limited what we believe God is allowed to do, and to consider whether we are open to the unexpected, disruptive, and grace-filled ways God still works in our lives today.
