Golgotha was his dais, the cross his throne, he was crowned with thorns and in three languages a banner proclaimed his royalty. This was not the king or kingdom the disciples -- let alone the people of Jerusalem and the Diaspora -- had expected nor even wanted. Yet this was not another tawdry defeat of some misguided Messiah figure. This seeming tragedy was God's ultimate triumph over corruption and its endgame, death itself.
