The Gospel of John - Peter's Restoration
from Shelbyville Community Church · host Pastor Brandon Rood
As we prepare to wrap up our series in the gospel of John, we’re going to take a look at Peter. At this point in the story, he is no longer one of Jesus’ disciples. He had denied Jesus and gone back to a life of fishing. Shortly after Jesus’ resurrection, Peter finds himself face-to-face with the person he denied. Can you imagine the feelings of shame and regret that washed over Peter at that moment? Maybe you can relate. Do decisions you’ve made or relationships you’ve broken haunt you at times? Are there things (or people) that cause feelings of shame and regret to bubble to the surface? Have you walked away from Jesus? Are you hoping your good deeds will somehow make you worthy of being close to Him again? Maybe your struggle is a little different. Maybe you long for a different life when you see the joy and peace others have. Maybe life feels stale, and you have this sense that there is more to life than what you are doing. Peter experienced all those things. Jesus met him in his brokenness. The one Peter denied went to him. The end of the story is beautiful, hope-filled, and directive. As you prepare to come and worship this weekend, read through John 21. Take your time. Pray out loud and ask God to meet you here. I believe something special and profound will happen this weekend as we take a deep dive into this story.
