That image set the foundation for the parable of the minas in Luke 19, a story Jesus told on the road to Jerusalem to correct a widespread and dangerous misunderstanding among those who followed him. The kingdom is here now, but not yet fully arrived. The crowd in Jericho had just heard Jesus speak salvation over Zacchaeus, and they were convinced that the kingdom of God was about to break fully into history right there in Jerusalem. Pastor Brian Crawford walked through why their excitement made sense and why it was still off. The crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension were not the end of the story. They were the beginning of a long and purposeful wait. Getting that timeline wrong, he said, disrupts everything about how a believer lives and shows up in the world.
