The Gospel of Mark: Authority in Action | Faith in the Waiting

It's good to worship together. Even if it's from home.In Mark 5, two desperate people come to Jesus from completely different places in life. Jairus is a respected synagogue leader whose twelve-year-old daughter is dying. An unnamed woman has suffered from continuous bleeding for twelve years, leaving her physically exhausted, financially depleted, and socially isolated.One has influence and status. The other carries shame and rejection. Yet both have reached the limits of what human effort can accomplish, and both discover that Jesus is their only hope.While Jesus is traveling to Jairus's home, the woman reaches through the crowd and touches His clothing. She is immediately healed, but Jesus does not allow her to disappear unnoticed. He calls her forward, listens as she tells the whole truth, restores her dignity, and calls her “Daughter.”Her healing did not come because she possessed a perfect or powerful faith. The power came entirely from Jesus. Faith is not a force that guarantees the outcome we desire. It is trust placed in the Person who holds all authority.During this delay, Jairus receives devastating news: his daughter has died. Jesus appears to have taken too long. Yet His silence was not His absence. He had remained beside Jairus throughout the journey.Jesus enters the child's room, takes her by the hand, and tells her to get up. Immediately, she rises and begins walking. What appeared final to everyone else was not final to Jesus.This message speaks to anyone who has prayed, waited, and wondered why God has not answered. We are invited to lament honestly, pray boldly, resist isolation, and surrender our timelines.
