It is either the narcissist or nihilist nature in a leader which pushes them to play gotcha in every conversation. The attack on personhood, status, class, education, race, beliefs is seldom based on merit or demerit of the actual attribute. Most commonly the one sided verbal sparring is designed only to be a self aggrandizing tool for the insecure leader. This practice is all too common among immature leaders of any age. Their confidence is so bruised, every breathless pause of the other person in the conversation becomes an opening to throw a verbal jab.
