The Grand Illusion of the Fake Police Station
from Matter of Fact: A play on "matter" (physics) and "facts" (news). · host Larry White
Zhang Changhe, a rural man with minimal education, established a highly convincing fake police station near the Xi'an Railway Station that operated for six months and swindled millions of yuan in "employment fees" from recruits who believed they were joining the official force. Despite being a fraudulent enterprise, the station earned a stellar reputation among local residents for its exceptional efficiency in catching thieves and resolving neighborhood disputes,. The elaborate scheme finally collapsed when the fake officers inadvertently exposed the operation by seeking backup from a real police station to help catch a thief, completely unaware that they were not actually law enforcement.
