The Great Flood – God's Judgment Upon Humanity

The Great Flood is a mythological catastrophe in which the entire world is submerged by water, known from the Bible but also from older cultures such as the Sumerians and Babylonians. In the biblical version, Noah and his family are saved by building an ark according to God's instructions. Similar stories appear in the Epic of Gilgamesh, where the god Enki warns a man named Utnapishtim. Some researchers believe the myth may have been inspired by real floods around the Black Sea or the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.
