The Green Gym - with Jules Acton

from Show Us Your Bits

We welcome Jules Acton, author of Oaklore, Adventures in a World of Extraordinary Trees. We’ve all been affected by the oak trees we’ve encountered in our lives and they feature hugely in our culture, not least of all the 400 Royal Oak pubs in the UK. In addition, Jules reveals that over two thousand species are supported by the oak tree and how oak trees, worshipped by the druids, can become immortal. As well as her lovely story behind her wedding ring and her weird family heirloom, she shows us a tiny gall, home to the marble gall wasp, a tiny object that for a thousand of years was used to make the ink that was used to write everything from the Magna Carta to the works of Shakespeare. Jules, gives some great tips for getting into nature and how to visit a woodland.
