March 2017. In a Brooklyn brownstone with dead radiators, Holmes is charting the super's broken promises on graph paper when Paige Winters, a customs supervisor at JFK, arrives straight from the airport. A screener named Rosa Delgado pulled a parcel off the Beijing freight line, and a green tag put it on manual hold. It is diplomatic cargo, and Washington will ask questions in forty-eight hours. The hold carries the name of Winters's own supervisor, Marcus Ellery, who has since vanished. Winters took the tag before anyone upstairs could file it, and Holmes promptly takes it from her, reading a nervous man in the dents along its edge. That night Holmes and Watson cross the cargo docks. Delgado is frightened for her job, and the last man who asked questions left his car idling and never came back for it. In a quiet break room she describes what she watched on the ramp monitor: a hooded figure in a station coat and thin gloves, carrying the parcel away alone. The next morning they sit down with Lily Chen, the Meridian Pacific station manager, who pours oolong and wants the shipment cleared before Washington calls again. Why would anyone take such trouble over one parcel, and where has Ellery gone? From the series Holmes NYC: a real New York crime reimagined as a modern Sherlock Holmes radio mystery, performed by a full multi-voice AI cast with an original score and sound design. Loosely inspired by a real New York case of the 2010s. All names, characters, dialogue and events are fictional; the words, actions, motives and private lives of every character — including customs officers, airline staff, diplomats, the investigators and the police — are invented for drama, and so is the solution of the mystery. Where a real city, state, public body or newspaper is mentioned, its part in this story is invented; the airline, its cargo office and the airport's docks named in it are invented too. This is a work of fiction, not a factual account of any real person or institution. No real person is portrayed, and no real individual, company or organisation is accused of any act shown here. Rex Rivetter: Private Eye Downstairs Entertainment Rex Rivetter: Private Eye is a modern audio drama. The year is 1955. Tinsel town. The land of make-believe. It's a time of growth in American prosperity. Especially in Los Angeles. Here, dreams are bought and sold. But there's a seedier side to the City of Angels, the shadows where pimps and narcotics pushers live, where organized crime stands just around every corner with one hand out, and the other wrapped around a roscoe. It's a city full of fancy dames and slick cons, where bookies know the vig, so you better, too. Some folks call it noir or pulp fiction. But for a private eye named Rex Rivetter, it's home.
