from The Shipwreck Archives · host Shipwreck Archives

Captain William Barnes of the Greycliffe made his official statement regarding the collision between his ferry and the Tahiti: “I called at Garden Island and picked up as usual and was proceeding to Neilsen Park. I was hardly half way between Garden Island and Neilsen Park, and was heading slightly north of Shark Island light, when I heard two blasts from a vessel: I looked on starboard side, but saw nothing; I stepped across to the port side side of the wheel house, and on looking astern I saw Tahiti within a few feet of my port quarter aft. I had not seen or heard of the Tahiti previously.”   Ship Name: Greycliffe Tonnage: 90Ship Type: Steam Ferry Nationality: Australia Year Built: 1911Year Wrecked: 1927Location Wrecked: Sydney Harbour Reason for Wreck: Collision with the Tahiti Lives Lost: 40Sources: https://www.google.com/books/edition/Lloyd_s_Register_of_Shipping_1919_Sailin/9yZjEAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=union+line+tahiti+lloyd&pg=PA170&printsec=frontcoverhttps://www.google.com/books/edition/Statistical_Register/64oV9yh8xC0C?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=greycliffe+ferry&pg=PA454&printsec=frontcoverhttps://www.google.com/books/edition/The_State_Reports_New_South_Wales/fQQ0AAAAIAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=greycliffe+ferry&pg=PA309&printsec=frontcoverhttps://www.google.com/books/edition/The_Australasian_Insurance_Banking_Recor/i81sMhJoXCEC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=greycliffe+ferry&pg=PA1098&printsec=frontcoverhttps://australianpolice.com.au/nsw-police-history-index/water-police/the-1927-tahiti-greycliffe-disaster/https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16825471?searchTerm=tahiti%20greycliffe%20court%20of%20appealshttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16439234https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/179377288?searchTerm=william%20shakespeare%20greycliffehttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/179373007?searchTerm=william%20shakespeare%20greycliffehttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/192773504?searchTerm=greycliffhttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/283758741?searchTerm=greycliffhttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/93997197/8938032https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/32083970?searchTerm=greycliffhttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/94355261?searchTerm=greycliffhttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/259922093?searchTerm=greycliffhttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/196285345?searchTerm=greycliffhttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/214525282?searchTerm=greycliffhttps://collection.motat.nz/objects/37380/steam-engine-triple-expansionhttps://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/3889383/458889https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/page/1298215
