Well today is a very special day as we welcome our second celebrity guest World Champion Snooker Player Cliff Thorburn

Patrick and Martin have a great informal chat to Cliff who now lives back in Canada.

Clifford Charles Devlin Thorburn  (born 16 January 1948) is a Canadian retired professional Snooker player,  Nicknamed "The Grinder" because of his slow, determined style of play.

Cliff won the World Snooker Championship in 1980 defeating Alex Higgins 18–16 in the final.

He is generally recognised as the sport's first world champion from outside the United Kingdom and he remains the only world champion from the Americas.  He was runner-up in two other world championships, losing 21–25 to John Spencer in the 1977 final and 6–18 to Steve Davis in the 1983 final.

At the 1983 tournament, Thorburn became the first player to make a maximum break of 147 in a World Championship match, achieving the feat in his second-round encounter with Terry Griffiths.

Ranked World Number one during the 1981 - 1982 season, Thorburn was the first non-British player to top the snooker world rankings. He won the Invitational Masters in 1983, 1985, and 1986, making him the first player to win the tournament three times and the first to retain the title.

Chris retired from the main professional tour in 1996. Inducted into Canada's Sporting Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Snooker Hall of Fame in 2014, he competed later in his career in Snooker Legends events and on the World Series tour, winning the 2018 Seniors Masters at the Crucible Theatre at age 70. He retired from competitive snooker after the 2022 seniors.

Household Puzzles by Pansy Loyal Books Household Puzzles peeks into the life of the Randolph family, four daughters and one son. They are financially strapped but must follow societal expectations . . . and the expectations of Helen, the eldest daughter, who is a slave to the whims of society. Half the family are professing Christians, but only the father really lives it out. Helen's marriage, Tom's job in a saloon, their cousin's visit, and other events all have an impact that reverberate through the family. (Intro by TriciaG) Tom Ossington's Ghost by Richard Marsh Loyal Books Madge and Ella have lived at Clover Cottage for six weeks when a series of strange events begin to occur. A gentleman who arrives asking for a piano lesson from Madge, suddenly bolts out the back door and over the hedge when he sees a rough-looking character watching him from the street in front of the cottage. This man in turn, runs away when he sees a shabbily dressed woman come around the corner. The woman, marches into the cottage, declaring that the cottage is haunted, and she is the wife of the ghost! An attempted burglary, and a cryptic note left at the scene, just add to the mystery. Outcast Of The Islands, An by Joseph Conrad (1857 - 1924) LibriVox An Outcast of the Islands is the second novel by Joseph Conrad, published in 1896, inspired by Conrad's experience as mate of a steamer, the Vigar. The novel details the undoing of Peter Willems, a disreputable, immoral man who, on the run from a scandal in Makassar, finds refuge in a hidden native village, only to betray his benefactors over lust for the tribal chief's daughter. The story features Conrad's recurring character Tom Lingard, who also appears in Almayer's Folly (1895) and The Rescue (1920), in addition to sharing other characters with those novels. This novel was adapted for the screen in 1952 by director Carol Reed, featuring Trevor Howard as Willems, Ralph Richardson as Lingard, Robert Morley, and Wendy Hiller. (Summary by Wikipedia)
