The Happy Family

"The Happy Family" is a short story by Hans Christian Andersen set in an overgrown burdock forest surrounding a forgotten castle. Two elderly snails — the last of their noble kind — live in contented self-importance, convinced the entire forest exists solely for their benefit. When they take in a young snail and arrange his marriage, their world feels complete.
