The Hard Nut (2007): Christmas in the Blanket Fort

Beth and Michelle try something a little different for the holidays with a relaxed watch-along of Mark Morris's The Hard Nut, a joyful reimagining of The Nutcracker set in colorful 1970s suburbia. Armed with paintbrushes, unfinished wooden nutcrackers, and plenty of hot coffee, they settle in for an evening of crafting, conversation, and one of Michelle's favorite holiday traditions. As the ballet unfolds, the conversation wanders wherever the evening takes it. They talk about gender in theater and dance, why this production has remained Michelle's favorite for years, favorite musicals, Christmas traditions, teaching, childhood memories, Bob's Burgers, and the unexpected comfort of simply making something with your hands while beautiful music plays in the background. Somewhere along the way, they also attempt to paint two very questionable-looking nutcrackers. This episode is less of a review and more of an invitation.
