The Harlem Renaissance

Described as the "New Negro Movement" and the "flowering of Negro literature", the Harlem Renaissance was the name of the cultural, social and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem between 1917 and 1935. Black writers, scholars, artists, musicians, photographers and poets flocked to Harlem where they could freely express themselves. But it was more than a literary movement...it was also a time of racial pride.
