The Heart E8 Difficult Relationships Part 2

from Tangible Talks · host Jana Hunt and Reata Zeanah

Send us Fan MailOn today's episode, Jana and Reata wrap up their discussion on difficult relationships and conclude the Heart series; emphasizing that when dealing with difficult relationships we must remember to use wisdom, seek truth, be loving, and show grace. They recap their thoughts on the book of Jonah and Jana touches on how different books touch individuals uniquely depending on where they are in their faith and life journey. Reata shares an example of an arduous marriage relationship between Hosea and his wife Gomer. The scriptural example conveys an inspiring act of Godly obediance and forgiveness. Furthermore, Reata correlates Gomer's unfaithfulness with Israel's unfaithful relationship with God, elaborating on how God continuously forgives us for our transgressions time and time again. Raising the question of how many times should you forgive someone? What does the Bible say? Additionally, Reata brings awareness to the fact that different relationships require/warrant different reactions/responses. Sometimes the situation should be confronted and sometimes we may have to separate ourselves and give it over to God; handing the other person over to the things they are chasing. It is tremendously difficult to see someone you love hurting themselves, but we must remember that God loves our loved ones even more than we do, and sometimes the best act of faith is to completely hand it over to God and trust that he will intervene. Jana discusses the difficult relationship between Joseph and his brothers; explaining how Joseph's story exemplifies how God can use failed relationships to glorify Him when we uphold a Godly character and do not hold grudges or bitterness in our hearts. This sparks further conversation about how Joseph's brothers did not "deserve" forgiveness, but neither do we; which is exactly why we should forgive others as God has forgiven us through the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ. Verse Mentioned: Ezekiel 11:19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.Jeremiah 31:33“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel    after that time,” declares the Lord.“I will put my law in their minds    and write it on their hearts.I will be their God,    and they will be my people."Matthew 15:18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.Hosea 14:9Who is wise? Let them realize these things.    Who is discerning? Let them understand. The ways of the Lord are right;    the righteous walk in them,    but the rebellious stumble in them.
