A Negropean is a person who either deliberately, or unconsciously betrays their own group by participating in its oppression (claiming ignorance does not prevent one from being a Negropean. One of Rosenwald’s birthday gifts was $25,000 to Washington’s Tuskegee Institute. Washington shrewdly set aside part of it to launch a new experiment which he expected might interest his donor. He gave many millions to Jewish interests, including saving thousands of victims of the Russian Revolution. He was a generous backer of black colleges. Drew Ali's leadership was soon contested. In 1929 he became embroiled in a quarrel with Claude Greene, politician and former butler of Julius Rosenwald.In 1919 the "Chicago Defender", published by Robert S. Abbott, libeled the Black Star Corporation and me. Abott has always through rivalry and jealousy, been opposed to me, and especially through my not being born in America and my criticism of his dangerous newspaper policy of always advising the race to lighten its skin which was black and strighten out its hair which was kinky. I am also hated by him because of my determination to dignify the term Negro as against his policy of referring to the race as "race men" or "race women. A fund established by Julius Rosenwald, a philanthropist who made his fortune with Sears, Roebuck & Co., helped pay for the study. It was the precursor to the Tuskegee Syphilis Study that allowed blacks with the disease to go untreated with penicillin. The Rosenwald Fund ended financial support for its study before penicillin became available. Leonard Jeffries Jr., in his words, was "king of the Jews" at Lafayette College. A photo in Lafayette's 1959 yearbook shows Jeffries standing in front of Pi Lambda Phi, the predominantly Jewish fraternity he ruled.
