The Hidden Advantage of Submitting Early

If you’re submitting your film to film festivals, screenwriting competitions, grants, labs, residencies or pitch competitions, does submitting early actually improve your chances of getting accepted? In this episode, I break down my theory that while most organizations officially evaluate every submission equally, there may still be small advantages to submitting before the final deadline.We’ll talk about film festival programmers, evaluator fatigue, early-bird deadlines, submission timing, internal shortlists, programming decisions, anchoring, reader workload and why giving someone more time to sit with your film or application could potentially work in your favor. I’ll also explain why this theory appears strongest with film festivals and rolling opportunities, while fixed-deadline grants and structured competitions may work very differently.The important distinction is that I’m not suggesting you rush an unfinished movie, screenplay or application just to submit early.
