The Hidden Cost of Building Someone Else’s Business Model | Ep 186

I see this happen all the time when I look at the numbers inside a business. A founder is paying for five different software subscriptions, investing in another coaching program, signing up for events, or hiring support because someone else in their industry said that’s what they needed to grow. But when we actually look at the numbers, the question becomes: Did this expense actually help the business? Or did you just build a more expensive version of someone else’s business? In this episode of Her Profit Era, I’m talking about the hidden cost of building someone else’s business model — and why so many founders are making financial decisions based on comparison, FOMO, and what they see other people doing instead of what their own business actually needs. I share how I’ve made these decisions in my own business, including expenses I cut when I realized they weren’t aligned with where I was going, and the questions I use with CFO clients to evaluate whether an expense actually supports their goals. Because the right expenses look different for every business. What makes sense for someone else’s business might not make sense for yours — and the numbers will tell you the difference.
