The Hidebehind Cryptid | Paranormal Podcast In this episode we dove into one of the most unsettling cryptids in North American folklore — the Hide Behind — a nocturnal, humanoid stalker from the Pacific Northwest that has been terrifying Native Americans, loggers, and hikers for centuries, and whose entire hunting strategy is built around making you turn around and look for it, which somehow makes it worse than if it just attacked you outright. We broke down the lore, from early Lumberjack disappearances in logging camps to the creature's ability to compress its body behind trees as thin as 10 inches, and the deeply disturbing theory that it may be a shape-shifter that chooses its appearance specifically to make you want to come closer. Then we got into four encounters — including a Reddit post from a man who calls himself a cryptid control specialist, a teenager who yelled "I found the witch" at something way too tall to be any of his friends, and a lone tent-dweller who set up a motion sensor light only to watch it trip on and off all night while nothing appeared every time he unzipped the tent. We landed on viable and skeptical respectively, but honestly, the lack of a clear physical description, the shape-shifting angle, and the fact that its whole thing is staying just out of sight makes this one of those cryptids that's going to stick with us the next time we hear something snap a twig behind us on a trail.
