I'm Mark Murray. So President Trump loves, absolutely loves to comment on the Democratic race for President. Especially when it comes to his claim that Bernie Sanders is getting a raw deal from Democrats. It's being rigged against, it's sad.
It's being rigged against crazy-burning. That was Trump on Monday night from Charlotte. Right after word that Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar had endorsed Joe Biden. Mayor Pete, he quit out last night.
And then I hear, then I hear a senator from a state and we're going to win. We're going to win that state. But she dropped out. Sounds like they made a deal, you know?
They both supported Sleepy Joe. They, you know why? They made a deal. You know why?
Quit bro-quo. That's why. Don't quit bro-quo. After Joe Biden's victories on Super Tuesday, Trump tweeted that the Democratic establishment, quote, crushed Bernie Sanders again, unquote, because Elizabeth Warren stayed in the race.
Now a little fact check here. A candidate picking up endorsements from defeated rivals isn't rigging an election. In fact, I remember Trump picking up endorsements of his own in 2016. And on Super Tuesday, Joe Biden defeated Bernie Sanders fair and square.
In fact, Sanders outspent and out-organized Biden. But here are some numbers to help explain why Trump cares so much about the Democratic race and how Sanders supporters are feeling. According to merged data from the January and February NBC News, Wall Street Journal polls, just 38% of Sanders voters say that they are enthusiastic or comfortable with Biden. That's compared with 60% who have reservations or who are very uncomfortable with the former vice president.
By contrast, Biden voters have a more positive view of Sanders. In the same polling, 55% of Biden backers say that they are enthusiastic or comfortable with Sanders, while 42% say that they have reservations or are very uncomfortable with the Vermont Senator. This same kind of dynamic played out in 2016 too, with Sanders voters being cooler to Hillary Clinton than vice versa. And it was a dynamic that Russian intelligence exploited when it released through WikiLeaks, DNC emails on the eve of the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia, as Robert Mueller's indictments ended up revealing.
And it all comes as the rhetoric between Sanders and Biden is heating up after Tuesday. Here was Sanders speaking with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow. It was an article I don't know if you saw today, Wall Street Journal. Wall Street starts opening up its wallet for Joe Biden.
He has more than 60 billionaires contributing to his campaign. And he was Biden firing back with NBC's Savannah Guthrie on the Today Show. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous.
Bernie, you got beaten by overwhelming support I have in the African-American community, Bernie. You got beaten because of suburban women, Bernie. You got beaten because of middle-class hard-working folks out there, Bernie. A two-person Democratic race is now between Biden and Sanders, then President Trump is eager to exploit it, as he did four years ago.
