The Hlanganani Midday Show host Mvelo Hadebe had an interview with Mrs V. Nundkissor
from The Hlanganani Show · host MUT RADIO
Mvelo spoke with Mrs V. Nundkissor about Multiple Myeloma, a serious yet often overlooked blood cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow. She explained that the disease can damage bones, weaken the immune system, and lead to complications such as infections, anaemia, and kidney failure. Early symptoms—including persistent bone pain, fatigue, frequent infections, and unexplained weight loss—are often ignored, resulting in late diagnosis. Although there is currently no cure, Multiple Myeloma can be managed through treatments such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and stem cell transplants. However, access to timely diagnosis and treatment remains a significant challenge in many South African communities. The conversation also highlighted the mental, emotional, and financial impact on patients, while encouraging students to support those affected and actively raise awareness. Mrs Nundkissor emphasised the importance of early detection, dispelling myths, and taking symptoms seriously, reminding listeners that awareness can save lives. www.mut.ac.za · iono.fm
