The Holiday Trap

from The Work of Being Human · host Vanessa Bentley

Well this episode was fueled by guilt! I mulled over this all week... I spoke about the holidays with such enthusiasm in my last podcast, and that was so insensitive to folks who dread the holidays with every fiber of their being. Indeed, they are a tough time of year for many. When I reflected on it, I realized I used to dread the holidays too, but for years now - with healthy relationships in my life and better boundaries - I've looked forward to the holiday season with joy. This week, we explore the major mistakes I made during past holiday seasons and how those actions made them much harder. From jumping back into old family roles to burning the candle at both ends, we'll dive into the reasons so many dread the holidays and how to do it differently this year. I even address going through the holidays alone. (I've done it!) The holidays don't have to deplete us or defeat as we approach the end of the calendar year. This week's podcast is all about how to stay connected to yourself first then others during a busy and often challenging season.
