It can make those who experience it feel like they are not worthy of God's love, grace, and healing. It can also raise questions about God's role and very existence. How do we walk alongside them and encourage them that they are worthy and help them heal?  The holidays can be a difficult for people who have experienced trauma or grief. It can remind be a reminder of people, places or things that are no longer with us or that we never had, potentially due to violence in our society.
