MurthyIn recent years, about one-in-two adults in America reported experiencing loneliness. And that was before the COVID-19 pandemic cut off so many of us from friends, loved ones, and support systems, exacerbating loneliness and isolation.Loneliness and isolation represent profound threats to our health and well-being. But we have the power to respond. A culture of connection rests on core values of kindness, respect, service, and commitment to one another. Everyone contributes to the collective culture of social connection by regularly practicing these values.Behaviors are both learned from and reinforced by the groups we participate in and the communities we are a part of. Thus, the more we observe others practicing these values, the more they will be reinforced in us. 1. The Holy Spirit is a person.John 14:26 NIVBut the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said.” 2. The Holy Spirit is God.Clark Pinnock“Modern Christians are largely content to be trinitarian in belief, but binitarian in practice.”Gordan Fee“God lives in eternal relationship with himself as a Triune God. The relational implications of this for us, both toward God and toward one another, should become a primary part of our paradigm of life in the Spirit as we live together. The Spirit is foundational to (our) entire experience and understanding of (our) present life in Christ.” 3. The Holy Spirit empowers us for mission.Acts 1:4, 8 NIVDo not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 4. The Holy Spirit is the key to compelling Christian community.2 Corinthians 13:14 NIV“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”Galatians 5:22-23 NIV“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.Acts 15:28 NIV“It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us…”Hebrews 10:25 NIV“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another…” 1. The Holy Spirit is a person.2. The Holy Spirit is God.3. The Holy Spirit empowers us for mission.4. The Holy Spirit is the key to compelling Christian community.
