May 24, 2025 Daily Devotion: "The Hope Found in Scriptures" Romans 15:4 New Living Translation 4 Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled. Just as layering clothes in the winter helps protect your body against the ravages of the cold, “layering” the Word of God by daily Scripture reading will help protect your soul againstthe ravages of sin. The most effective weapon we have to keep us from falling prey to the evil in the world and the temptations fired at us by Satan is the Word of God. Even Jesus, when He was tempted in the desert for forty days, used Scripture as His weapon (Matthew 4:1-11). The Bible itself reminds us numerous times to study the Scriptures. In Ephesians 6:11, we're told to “put on the full armor of God” in order to protect ourselves from “the devil's schemes”; and this armor includes the Word of God, the Bible. If we're fully protected each day from the evil of the world and the schemes of the enemy, we'll have the fullness of joy.
