The need to be understood. The need for recognition. The inability to receive correction without immediately preparing a response.And sometimes, pride is simply the difficulty of saying:“I was wrong.”BREAK MY PRIDE is a deeply personal prayer for the sincere heart that loves God but is beginning to recognize the quieter places where pride may still be hiding.It is for the person who is quick to defend but slow to examine themselves.The person who apologizes—and then adds, “but…”The person who struggles when overlooked.The person who can recognize pride in someone else but struggles to recognize it within themselves.This prayer asks a difficult question:God… is that me?How many times has God tried to correct us, but we defended ourselves?How many times has someone told us something we needed to hear, but because we didn’t like their tone, we rejected the truth?How many times have we focused on how they said it so we wouldn’t have to confront what they said?Sometimes the person we believe is attacking us may be touching something inside us that we do not want exposed.And sometimes we become angry because somewhere inside, we know there was truth in what they said.That realization changes the prayer:Jesus… I don’t want to fight You.What if I have been defending the very thing You are trying to remove?Forgive me for wanting vindication when You wanted transformation.Forgive me for asking You to prove I was right when You were trying to show me where I was wrong.Don’t let me call persecution what is actually correction.Don’t let me rebuke what You sent to refine me.Don’t let me blame the enemy for every uncomfortable truth.BREAK MY PRIDE is not asking God to humiliate us.It is asking Him to make us teachable.Teach me to apologize without defending myself.Teach me to listen without preparing my response.Teach me to receive correction without attacking the person correcting me.Teach me to celebrate others when their name is called and mine is not.Teach me to serve when nobody notices.And perhaps the deepest surrender is this:Jesus, if being right is keeping me from becoming right, break my need to be right.I would rather be changed by You than defended by my pride.I would rather lose an argument than lose what You are building inside me.So, in the name of Jesus:Break my defensiveness. Break my excuses. Break my need for recognition. Break my need to prove myself. Break my need to win.Break even the pride I have learned to call something else.And when the Holy Spirit puts His finger on something inside me, give me enough humility to say:“Yes.
