The Hunchback of Notre Dame Book 7 Chapter VIII - The Utility of Windows which Open on the River

In which the brooding figure of the archdeacon, imprisoned in a dark and cramped retreat, becomes an unwilling witness to a tender and turbulent encounter between a radiant young gypsy and a dashing captain, whose declarations of love and whispered promises create a charged atmosphere fraught with jealousy and despair.
