The Hunting Ground: Corruption and Justice in Fuzhou

from Matter of Fact: A play on "matter" (physics) and "facts" (news). · host Larry White

In 2001, corrupt police officials in Fuzhou orchestrated a meticulously planned "frame hunting" operation, where they executed a man named Bian Lizhong and planted evidence to portray him as an armed robber. This conspiracy resulted in the wrongful three-year imprisonment of businessman Chen Xintao, whose assets were seized and distributed among the officers involved in the setup. Following years of legal battles and a major investigation, the key conspirators were eventually executed or imprisoned, while the mastermind, former Deputy Police Chief Wang Zhenzhong, fled to the United States and died of cancer after acknowledging his actions as retribution.
