The Illusion of Worldly Desire and the Eternal Truth of the Soul
from AUDIO GURBANI - A free podcast · host Gurjit Singh JHAMPUR
This passage highlights the delusion of worldly desires and the ultimate reality of mortal existence:Unquenchable Desires: Material wealth, power, fine foods, and lust never bring true fulfillment—just as adding fuel only intensifies a fire. Without spiritual connection, chasing these worldly temptations leaves a person perpetually unsatisfied, running in circles like a stray dog.Impermanence of the Physical Body: The human body and earthly possessions are completely temporary. Whether consumed by fire or worms, the body degrades like an unbaked clay pot in water. Pride in youth, appearance, or status is foolish, especially given our humble, vulnerable origins. The Reality of Death: Wealth accumulated greedily offers no protection in the end. At death, loved ones, friends, and family only accompany the body as far as the threshold or cremation ground. The soul departs entirely alone to face the consequences of its choices.True Fulfillment: Lasting peace, spiritual equilibrium (sehaj), and bliss cannot be bought; they are found solely by recognizing the priceless, divine Name (Naam) through the guidance of the Guru.
