The Importance of Amplifying Community Voices

from UMBC Mic'd Up · host UMBC Mic'd Up with Dennise and special guest Kiaron Bailey

At UMBC, we love to hear the journey of how someone ends up in our programs. For Kiaron Bailey '21, M.P.S. Community Leadership, the reason she decided to study community leadership at UMBC was very clear. "I love volunteering. No matter what community I live in, I always try to give back to that community. I decided to do some research on how I can turn my passion of volunteerism into something I can do to help communities. And that's how I landed in the Community Leadership program." In her current role with the state of Maryland, she is able to put her degree to great use with an agency that constructs schools. She takes the skills she learned in the program and applies them directly to the work she does.TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 INTRO1:53 No Hesitancy in applying to the program2:56 The journey to UMBC5:40 Using financial background to impact communities7:10 Working with a community partner9:10 Amplifying community voices10:40 Applying skills learned in the class12:53 Biggest takeaway from studying community leadershipTo hear more about Kiaron's journey, tune into this episode! To learn more about the graduate program in Community Leadership at UMBC, visit us: https://leader.umbc.edu
