The Inca are depicted wearing Spanish clothing, but with Inca gold adornments and are captioned with Spanish names, prefixed by ‘’Don’’ meaning lord or gentleman. It is the oldest known signed and dated painting from South America and is said to have been commissioned by a colonial official as a gift to the king of Spain.
