WordPress Interactivity API in Action with Seth Rubenstein
from The Web Talk Show Hosted by Armando J. Perez-Carreno
See how Pew Research Center uses the WordPress Interactivity API to build live search filters and interactive blocks in the block editor. Seth Rubenstein shows Armando real examples of what modern WordPress can do without a third party page builder. In this episode: Pew moved from a 12-site WordPress multisite to one main site built with full site editing, which makes the design and templates easier to manage. Their simple form blocks (like a checkbox or a select drop-down) do nothing by themselves until you give them an interactivity namespace, so the same small blocks work as a reusable components library. Their faceted search updates results and counts live with no page reload, and it only renders the parts that changed, so it uses less server resources. Quizzes and charts are built right in the block editor, and the brand guidelines are programmed in, so editors can't make a chart that breaks them. Seth read up on the Block Bindings API and deleted 10 custom blocks in two hours.
