Contrary to conventional wisdom, Solomon counsels that it is better to go to a funeral home (“a house of mourning”) than to attend a party (“a house of feasting”). In Ecclesiastes 7:2, Solomon said, Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies— so the living should take this to heart. He explains that it is better because parties tend to promote an empty, useless perspective on life; whereas it is at the funeral home that we face reality.
