THE INTERVIEW with MIC KING

Philly-born, Brooklyn-based MC Mic King joined A-BIZ on HYFIN’s...THE INTERVIEW to discuss his music career and upcoming project, For Your Consideration. Packed with beats from heavyweights like Just Blaze, Hit-Boy, Scott Storch, and Conductor Williams, the project highlights King’s technical prowess alongside rap royalty. In the interview, King shared the behind-the-scenes stories of collaborating with legends, including getting in the studio with Ghostface Killah for "Count On It" and securing a verse from his childhood hero, Rakim, for the track "Hallelujah"—a moment that earned immediate approval from his father. Beyond working with hip-hop icons, King reflected on how his origins in Philadelphia and his college years sharpening his skills in Howard University’s battle rap ciphers shaped his resilience and work ethic. He discussed transitioning from the high-octane freestyle world to crafting versatile, complete records like the Scott Storch-produced track "Black Mirror," which explores modern phone culture over an infectious beat. Rooted in deep networking, strong team support, and pure ambition, King made it clear that while his technical ability remains sharp, his ultimate focus is delivering classic, timeless hip-hop for the culture.
