Why do we drop a ball at Times Square in New York City to celebrate the new year? In other news, “permacrisis” was chosen by Collins Dictionary as its word of the year. And we’ve begun  the new year with news of the deaths of Barbara Walters and Pope Benedict XVI. From the horrors of war to massive storms and floods to holiday loneliness and financial struggles, we are reminded daily that we are broken people living in a broken world.
