The irrational withdraw of 783 charges against President Zuma

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

President Jacob Zuma lawyer Kemp J Kemp has on Thursday admitted that the decision to withdraw 783 charges against his client was irrational. Kemp admitted this at the Supreme Court of Appeal, but he, however, said Zuma requested to make new representations to the National Director of Public Prosecutions. The North Gauteng High Court had ruled in April 2016 that the 2009 decision to withdraw criminal charges against Zuma was irrational. In a staggering about-turn on Thursday, President Zuma has asked for a new opportunity to make representations to the National Prosecuting Authority on the hundreds of corruption charges that have haunted him for years. Now, president Zuma wants the current NPA head, to make a new decision on the 783 corruption charges hanging over his head. To make sense of this and other related matters we are joined on the line by:- Andre Thomas- Hausen: Public, Constitutional and International Law Expert: University of South Africa - Mathews Phosa: A South African Attorney and Politician.
