The Jamison Family: They Vanished. Then Their Bodies Were Found 4 Years Later

from Hitched 2 Homicide · host Kris Calvert and Rob Pottorf

On October 8, 2009, Bobby Jamison, his wife Sherilynn, and their six-year-old daughter Madyson drove into the remote mountains of southeastern Oklahoma to look at a 40-acre piece of property they were considering buying. Then the entire family vanished. Days later, their pickup truck was found abandoned in Latimer County. Inside were their wallets, identification, personal belongings, a large amount of cash, and their severely malnourished dog. But there was no sign of Bobby, Sherilynn, or Madyson. The scene raised more questions than answers. Why would a family leave behind money, identification, and their dog? Why had they seemingly walked away from the truck? And what had happened after they disappeared into the rugged terrain of the Sans Bois Mountains? As investigators dug into the family’s life, the mystery only deepened. Reports emerged of financial troubles, family conflict, claims of paranormal activity inside their home, and unusual behavior in the days before they disappeared. A photograph of Madyson taken shortly before the family vanished also became one of the case’s most haunting pieces of evidence. For four years, there were no answers. Then, in November 2013, hunters discovered skeletal remains of two adults and a child in a remote area less than three miles from where the Jamisons’ truck had been abandoned. In July 2014, the Oklahoma medical examiner confirmed that the remains belonged to Bobby, Sherilynn, and Madyson Jamison. But even the discovery of their bodies did not solve the mystery. Because of the condition of the remains, authorities could not determine a cause or manner of death. No one has ever been charged, and theories have ranged from murder-suicide and accidental death to foul play involving another person. None has been conclusively proven. This is the true crime mystery of the Jamison family—three people who drove into the Oklahoma mountains, left behind a truck filled with everything they should have needed, and disappeared into a mystery that remains unsolved more than fifteen years later.
