The Jaunt with Jeroen Smeets

The Jaunt is a project that lets artists pre sell art work to fund a trip - or go on a jaunt- where they can be inspired by their new surroundings to create art work. It is a simple concept of art patronage that allows the artist to explore new creative territory, and patrons to be a part of that journey. Art buyers purchase work that will be produced as a result of the Jaunt. The art work they will receive is sold sight unseen - because it has yet to be made. The project came about after seeing successful crowdfunding projects and talking to artists about travel and inspiring trips. I loved his ‘ how can we make it happen’ attitude. The Jaunt came about in 2013 and now funds 10 trips a year for artists who Jeroen chooses based on art work he would like to own. The artists he selects are a combination of new and established. The accessible price point of the artworks on sale ahead of an artists Jaunt has likely created a new wave of art patrons who can feel included in the creative process.
