But the more people have to worry about saying the wrong thing and hurting your feelings, the harder it becomes to win. The best cultures are actually direct and to the point. That way, you spend less wasted time and get more done in less time. The people who helped me advance the most were also my toughest critics. They didn't let me get away with wasting time or giving excuses. They called me out immediately and told me when something sucked.
