Traveling from home to work to social events, driving becomes habit. People have time to think about the next step in their busy day along the familiar route, their driving semi-automatic. Little is seen of the surrounding scenery. Little is heard, felt, or smelt of the environment behind the rolled-up windows with the radio on and the air conditioning going. Astride a bicycle, a person is open to the world. They feel the earth beneath their tires, smell the fragrance of the landscape, hear the living orchestra around them. They feel their bodies powering them forward and with every pedal there are new things to see and wonder at. The trip becomes the joy, not the destination.
