The Jukebox: April 25, 1998

from The Jukebox: Radio Archive · host Mike Saffran

“The All-Request Rock ’n’ Roll Jukebox,” hosted by Mike Saffran, on “99 BBF”/WBBF-FM (98.9), Rochester, N.Y. The first all-request “Jukebox” show of the “99 BBF ” era. Originally aired 7 p.m.–Midnight April 25, 1998. Callers aired and other show highlights: 00:38 Cory/Ontario, Canada (“Do It Again”) 01:33 Reference, at end of weather forecast, to Benjamin B. Forman Building (more commonly known as B. Forman Building — named for the one-time popular department store, B. Forman Co. — or, simply, Forman Building), which was once part of Rochester’s Midtown Plaza (the building was torn down in 2010). The station’s call letters, “BBF,” were the initials of the company’s founder; the station occupied the fifth and sixth floors of the Forman Building — with studios on the sixth floor, above business and sales offices one flight below — separated by a grand staircase. (From the host: “I was one of few DJs — possibly the only one — to occasionally refer to the building by the full name of ‘Benjamin B. Forman.’”) 01:58 Andrea/Rochester (“Maybe I’m Amazed”) 02:10 “Still The Same” (From the host: “Playing this song was an obvious technical glitch: The wrong song was cued up for the listener phone call beforehand. It happens — although, hopefully, not very often! I cannot recall, all these years later, exactly what caused it. But from my training and experience, I did the right thing by letting the song that started to play continue — and then playing the actual song requested afterwards. It would’ve sounded worse to abruptly stop the first song live on the air. So, in order for this podcast to be a true representation of the show’s reality, I present the ‘warts’ [mistakes] and all!” ) 03:10 Tom/Charlotte (“I Fought The Law” – WBBF-AM reference) 04:11 Lindsey/Fairport (“Love Potion No. 9”) 04:41 Pat/Carter Lake (“Party Doll” – dedication to Jane) 05:35 Chris/Alden (“Hot Fun In The Summertime” – for the host’s boss!) 06:42 “Oldies Night” (with 99 BBF’s Mike Vickers) at Maxwell’s (Irondequoit bar) reference (multiple times throughout the show) 07:06 Bruce/Castile (“Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”) 08:10 Laurie/Lake Ontario State Parkway (“American Pie”) 09:27 Angela/Brockport (“Then He Kissed Me”) 10:10 Katy/Henrietta (“Mustang Sally”) 11:34 Dick/Geneseo (“Baby It’s You” – WGSU and WBBF-AM references) 12:58 Emily/RIT (“Unchained Melody”) 13:48 Dan/Rochester (“Temptation Eyes”) 14:41 Reference to being the last person on my street to mow my lawn for the first time in the spring 15:41 Sharon/Hilton (“My Special Angel” – dedication to Dan) 16:39 Doug (“Little Girl”) 17:53 Jessica/Henrietta (“In The Summertime” – Mothers Against Drunk Driving reference ;-) 18:46 Heidi (“Chapel Of Love”) 19:53 Jill/Irondequoit (“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”) 20:23 Julie (“I Think We’re Alone Now”) 21:42 Diana (“Love Me”) 23:18 Dani/Irondequoit (“If You Wanna Be Happy” – dedication to David)
