The Jukebox: Bonus Clip

from The Jukebox: Radio Archive · host Mike Saffran

“The All-Request Rock ’n’ Roll Jukebox,” hosted by Mike Saffran, on “99 BBF”/WBBF-FM (98.9), Rochester, N.Y. Originally aired 7 p.m.–Midnight Nov. 7, 1998 (Bonus Clip). Special note: For the first time since starting as “The Jukebox” host on Jan. 28, 1995 — nearly three years and nine months earlier — Mike Saffran, on Oct. 24, 1998, missed a regularly scheduled, weekly, all-request call-in show so he could attend a cousin’s out-of-town wedding. Then, the following week, Oct. 31, 1998 (Halloween), fellow 99 BBF DJ Tom Noonan hosted a Halloween radio special during the normal time slot for “The Jukebox” (7 p.m. until midnight Saturday). So, for the next two weeks, in place of usual weekly full-show “rewinds,” “The Jukebox: Radio Archive” podcast presents special bonus content — including, this week, a clip, from Nov. 7, 1998 (upon the host’s return from the atypical two-week hiatus), in which Mike shares that he attended, on Oct. 18, 1998, the Jacksonville Jaguars at Buffalo Bills NFL game (and he caught “Flutie Fever”!); offers the unconventional Election-Day-voting advice (in the spirit of a make-believe “public service announcement”): “If you don’t want to vote, stay home!”; and laments how yet again that year, New York City voters essentially determined the outcome of many state-wide elections (due to their outsized number).
