The King Who Asked for a Clean Heart | Come Follow Me Bedtime Story | Psalm 51

from Come Follow Me Meditations · host Pondereth

A gentle bedtime story about a king who made a wrong choice, and the quiet prayer that made him new. A Come Follow Me bedtime story for August 24–30, "I Will Declare What He Hath Done for My Soul" (Psalms 49–51; 61–66; 69–72; 77–78; 85–86, David). Long ago, in a palace late at night, a king named David sat alone with one small oil lamp burning. He had once been a shepherd boy who made up songs about God on the green hills. Now he was king — and he had done something wrong, and the heavy feeling would not go away. So he picked up his pen and wrote God a true song. He did not make excuses. He simply asked, "Create in me a clean heart, O God" — wash me until I am whiter than snow, give me back my joy. And because God is good and ready to forgive, He said yes. David kept that song so that anyone with a heavy heart would know exactly what to do, and people are still singing it tonight, all over the world. Children learn here that they cannot make their own hearts clean — Jesus does that — and that God never gets tired of making hearts new. Play this as your little ones settle under the blankets and let the day end soft and safe.
