The Kinks

Welcome to Rock & Roll Flashback!  I'm Jumpin' John, and on this podcast I will discuss the English rock band called the Kinks!  Ray Davies and his younger brother Dave Davies were born in the mid 1940’s in London, England.  After both learning to play guitar, the brothers formed the Ray Davies Quartet at school with Ray's friend and classmate Pete Quaife and Quaife's friend John Start.  The band performed under several other names between 1962 and 1963—the Peter Quaife Band, the Bo-Weevils, the Ramrods, and the Ravens.  In 1963 record producer Shel Talmy began working with the band, and in early 1964 Talmy got them a contract with Pye (P-Y-E) Records.  The Ravens added a new drummer, Mick Avory, and in early 1964 the Ravens changed their name to the Kinks.  Ray Davies has said that the name was coined by Larry Page, and referenced their "kinky" fashion sense.  Larry Page said, "The way you look, and the clothes you wear, you ought to be called the Kinks."  The original Kinks line-up was Ray Davies (on lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Dave Davies (on lead guitar, vocals), Mick Avory (on drums, percussion) and Pete Quaife (on bass).  We welcome your feedback, so please feel free to click on this link and let us know your thoughts and/or suggestions via phone text!All podcasts on the Rock and Roll Flashback Podcast are produced by brothers-in-law Bill Price and "Jumpin' John" McDermott.  The Podcast Theme Song, "You Essay", was written by John.  It was initially recorded by Bill and John on April 1, 2004 with several revisions since then. Multiple promo videos and photos for Rock and Roll Flashback Podcasts are available on the following social media sites:https://www.youtube.com/@RockandRollFlashbackhttps://www.facebook.com/rockandrollflashbackpodcasthttps://www.instagram.com/jumpinjohnmcdermott/Bill and John welcome your feedback and comments, and they can be emailed to [email protected] you for listening to Rock and Roll Flashback Podcasts!Until next time...Rock On!
